14 Days Rwenzori Climbing and Primate Trekking Uganda

Welcome to our exclusive 14 Days Rwenzori Climbing and Primate Trekking Adventure Uganda where you come face to face with wildlife. You will also come face to face not only with the giants of the forests but also snow cape just at the equator.  This package offers a thrilling gorilla trekking experience and climbing adventure into the Rwenzori Mountains also known as the mountains of the moon. Did you know that Uganda has the highest percentage of gorillas in the world? You will see mountain gorillas in the jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and pay a visit to a nearby Batwa village. Queen Elizabeth National Park as a unique experience to offer like the amazing Kazinga channel boat cruise and the thrilling game drives. You will then conquer the highest peak in Uganda and end your trip with trekking pf the Chimpanzees in Kibale National Park.

Day 1: Warm welcome at Entebbe international Airport and transfer to your hotel

You will be warmly welcome by our Alps Trendy Safaris representative on your arrival at Entebbe airport who will brief you about your 14 Days Rwenzori Climbing and Primate Trekking Adventure. He will then transfer you to your lodge for dinner and relaxation. You will have enough rest as you get ready for the real start of your trip.

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with Equator experience

You will enjoy your breakfast and get ready for a road transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Along the way you will stop at the equator in Masaka where an imaginary line divides our planet into two equal hemispheres. Snacks, souvenirs, and photographs may be acquired here. You will have lunch on the way and reach Bwindi in the late afternoon. You will check in at Bakiga lodge for evening relaxation and dinner with overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Community experience in Bwindi

On this day 3 of your 14 Days Rwenzori Climbing and Primate Trekking Adventure Uganda, you wil have early breakfast and prepare for gorilla tracking experience. You will attend the briefing at the park headquarters which begins at 7 am, by the Uganda Wildlife Authority staff. We will then be guided into the jungle in search of these gentle giants in their natural habitats.

This trekking exercise may take 2-7 hours depending on the location of the gorillas in that particular day. Once you get sight of the gorillas, you will have an hour to admire, observe, and take photos of them in the presence of the armed ranger guide.

At the end of this long and exciting adventure, you will return to the lodge for your lunch and afternoon relaxation. In the evening, you will pay a visit to the Batwa, who are an indigenous group of people native to this area. You will spend some time with them as you learn their culture and way of life with some entertainments as you end your day.

Day 4: Morning transfer from Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will get ready for road transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is the most diverse national park in Uganda where humans and wildlife coexist in harmony.

On your arrival, start with boat cruise along the Kazinga channel that connects Lake Edward and Lake George. Some of the best wildlife sightings happen on boat cruises. During your cruise, you will spot squacco herons, pied kingfishers, large numbers of buffalos and hippos, basking crocodiles, and many other bird species and large mammals. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Game drive and Transfer to the Foothill of Rwenzori Mountains

You will have early breakfast and get ready for early morning game drive in the savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Our goal is to spot lions on the hunt during the cooler temperatures. You can also expect to see Uganda kob, elephants, buffalo, warthog, leopard, and waterbuck.

After your morning game drive, your driver-guide will drive you to Kasese, where you will check your hiking gear and make sure you have everything you need. You will then check in at your camp for meals and relaxation on your day 5 of your 14 Days Rwenzori Climbing and Primate Trekking Adventure .

Day 6: Trekking to Mitunga Gate (1615m) and trek to Nyabitaba Camp (2651m)

You will have your breakfast and then get ready at 8:00am to be picked by your guide and porters to start the journey to Rwenzori Mountains. You will begin your climb to the Mitunga Gate (1615m). After a briefing you will begin making your way through farmland to the park boundary. You will follow a thick forest along the Mubuku River and cross the Mahoma River tributary before starting a long, steep climb up onto a massive ridge to reach the Nyabitaba hut.

During this part of the trip, you may hear chimpanzees and see black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and the brilliantly coloured Rwenzori turaco. On your right-hand side, you will catch glimpses of Portal Peak. Hike duration: 6-7 hours and Elevation height: 1,036m.

Dinner and your overnight: Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 7: Trekking from Nyabitaba (2651m) – John Mate Camp (3505m)

On this second trekking day of your14 Days Mountains Climbing and Primate Trekking Adventure Uganda, you start from Nyabitaba and follow the trail that drops down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge. It is just below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers.

Passing through the bamboo forest, you will traverse through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. From the Nyamuleju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen before passing into the zone of the giant heather, lobelia, and groundsel. You will finally reach the John Matte Hut after passing through the bog. Hike duration: 7-8 hours and Elevation height: 854m.

Day 8: Climbing from John Maatte (3505m) to Bujuku Camp (3962m)

Get ready for futher experience on your third day of trekking the Mountains of the moon. From John Matte Hut the trail drops down to cross the Bujuku River and enters Lower Bigo Bog, the home of giant lobelias. Jumping from tussock to tussock, the bog is finally crossed, but rarely without stepping into some of the freezing mud.

The upper Bigo Bog gives way to Bujuku Lake, with views of Mt. Baker to the South and Mt. Stanley to the West. Bujuku Hut, which is located in the shadow of Mt. Baker and Mt. Speke, is set in a narrow valley below Stulman Pass. Note that this camp is good for acclimatization for clients attempting to summit the peaks of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke. Hike duration: 4-5 hours and Elevation height: 457m.

Day 9: Trekking from Bujuku (3962m) to Elena Camp (4541m)

On your adventure after leaving Bujuku, the trail takes you through more bog as you climb the steep slopes west of the lake and through the magical Groundsel Gully Forest. The trail to your right leads to the Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders, while the trail on your left leads to Scott-Elliot Pass and down to the Kitandara Lakes. Those summitting the peak will have dinner and their overnight stay at the icy Elena Hut.

Hike duration: 5-6 hours and Elevation height: 579m.

Day 10: Elena Hut (4541m) to Margherita Peak (5109m) then to Kitandara Camp (4430m)

On this great day, very early in the morning you will attempt to summit the Margherita peak of Mount Stanley. The climb takes about 4-5 hours depending on the weather conditions and the pace. The dream destination will take you through three glaciers, slippery rock, ice, and very exposed areas. We will climb onto the glaciers, cross the Stanley Plateau, and proceed with the ascent.

You will acclimatize to the fog, altitude sickness, and cool weather, then scramble up to the Margherita summit, which is the highest peak of the Rwenzori mountains. After a great relief you will take all the memorial pictures as many as you want. You will then descent back to the Elena Hut which  will take you about 2-3 hours.

Day 11: Descend from Kitandara (4430m) to Guy Yeoman (3261m)

You will have your breakfast and then start off from itandara. You will take the trail that ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker. You will continue along the south side of the mountain to Fresh Field Pass (4282m). From here you can view the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north.

Continue to descendthrough steep rocky trails and past the rock shelter at Bujongolo. This is the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. The hike duration is 6-7 hours.

Day 12: From Guy Yeoman (3261m) to Nyabitaba (2651m)  then to Mihunga Gate (1615m)

Below the Guy Yeoman Camp, the route descends through the cliffs of Kichuchu. Beyond Kichuchu the muddy path crosses the Mubuku River twice through a bamboo forest before climbing downwards to Nyabitaba to complete the circuit. Continue descending past the Nyabitaba Camp to complete your trek by the Mihunga Gate in the evening. This will conclude the climbing portion of the trip for your 14 Days Mountains Climbing and Primate Trekking Adventure Uganda.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the community with a traditional dance celebrating your success on conquering the Rwenzori Mountains. Our guide driver will be waiting to transfer you to the town of Fort Portal. The descending duration will be 6-7 hours.

Day 13: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park

You will have your early breakfast and get ready for a 5:00am departure to Kibale National Park for chimpanzee trekking. The trek will start early and takes about two to three hours, depending on the location of the chimpanzees on the particular day. After the trek, you will check in at Kibale Forest Camp lunch and afternoon relaxation.

Day 14: Transfer to Entebbe International Airport or to your hotel

As you come to the end of your 14 Days Rwenzori Climbing and Primate Trekking Adventure Uganda, after breakfast you will be transferred to the Entebbe airport for your flight home. You will have a stopover for lunch and then proceed to catch up with the flight time.
